Day 12 Monday 21 April
Exploring Inverness and surrounds today.
Premier Inn where we’re staying
Then off to the Clava Cairns, believed to be over 4,000 years old. They are burial sites.
And the last one
From here travelled along very narrow roads, they are still 60 mph but no way were we doing this!
Bit scary at times
Ross Viaduct along the way, very impressive!
Onto the best part of the day! Did a guided tour through the Brodie Catle - just amazing! Granted to the National Trust of Scotland in 1980 by Ninnian the 25th Brodie of Brodie (the head of the Clan). He was allowed to live there until he died in 2003. Just an amazing place!
Explanation for the photo further down of the children of one of the Brodies. Sorry about the order, it just has a mind of its own!It was bad luck to have 13 guests for dinner so if that happened, George the orangutan would have a chair and a place set for him as the 14th guest!
This setting had over 400 items hand painted in China. When it arrived, two of the 400 had the wrong spelling of the family motto of Unite. They said Untie and this one still exists today!
The surround of one of the fireplaces
Onto Fort George, still used today as a military camp
Entrance into fort
Bridge into fort
Onto Loch Ness - didn’t see Nessie but the area was just beautiful!
All of Loch Ness
Urquart Castle
Back to Inverness to explore more of the city.
Inverness Castle
I can just imagine the ghosts wandering around all those ancient places, would be pretty scary after dark at Clava Cairn?? Still enjoying glorious weather and you seem to be still talking to each other?? No navigational arguments yet?? All the best on your next drive to the very top of Scotland!
ReplyDeleteYep still talking! Couple of silent moments, mainly when navigating but over them quick! ๐๐ฅฐ
