Day 17 Saturday April 26

Left Ullapool today after a couple of quite relaxing days. A lovely place! Stopped at Corrieshalloch Gorge on our way south. What an absolutely stunning place. Corrieshalloch means curving waters or Ugly Hollows. It is one of Britain’s most spectacular slot gorges reaching a depth of 60 metres at a width of only 10 metres.

Suspension bridge I sprinted across - 60 m above the gorge!

View from end of gorge

View from lookout of Falls

The deer inside the keep out deer area!

Falls on way to gorge

Falls

Water at bottom of gorge, hoping it shows how high the gorge is!

Picture of what it looks like!

It was quite funny as we had to walk through a gated area to prevent deer getting in and eating the plant species in the gorge. The first thing we came across on the walk was a deer!

Onto the suspension bridge across this bloody 60 metre gorge! I could have joined the olympics and won the short sprint getting across that bridge! Great view of the Falls of Measach that luckily Gary took photos of for me!

Onto Letterfinlay accommodation but on the way we saw a turn off to Rogie Falls! The River Blackwater leads to the Falls and visitors have come here since Victorian times. This is also one of the best places in Scotland to watch salmon as they run upstream to find a mate and lay their eggs! Of course, we’re too early! No salmon!

Rogie Falls

Bridge across the river, is higher than it looks and moves a lot when people walk on it!

Another set of highland cows!

Us at Rogie Falls

Rogie Falls again

Then on to a gorgeous little place called Strathpeffer. It was just lovely, almost like a fairytale.

Mr Beans car!

Main Street of Strathpeffer

Pictish Slab - very little is known of Pictish culture. They have very beautiful incised and relief carvings , the meanings of which have been lost through time.

Carvings in the woods on the way to Strathpeffer

Lots of carvings

Church where Pictish slab is situated

More carvings

Got to Letterfinlay Lodge House just before check in time. A lovely little place on the loch. However I thought it was close to Isle of Skye and we’re actually at least 2 hours away! Also no wifi ( as advertised) and no loch view (as advertised,)  All part of the adventure!

View of the loch from the house

The loch was so calm it was like a mirror!

The house we stayed in, our room is bottom left.

The loch is just beautiful

Went into Spean Bridge for dinner at the Old Station Restaurant. Delicious mushroom risotto and Scottish steak pie!

Up early tomorrow for trip on to Isle of Skye!

No photos today unfortunately due to no wifi! Will update at next wifi place in a few days as the photos show the loveliest places!

  1. Sounds like you guys are certainly covering alot of wonderful places. Lucky you didn't try fishing for salmon but hay it would be the same result. Take care.
