Day 31 Saturday May 10

Up early today - big day! Off to Port Isaac first (Port Wenn for those who watched Doc Martin!) . It was just like the show, except the only place they identify there is Doc Martin’s house/surgery!

It’s an amazing place! Small roads leading to the harbour, steep walk up to Doc’s house, views from the cliff! Just gorgeous. I think it would have been even better if the tide was in.

Doc Martins house, you can rent it out!

And another - couldn’t decide on favourites so put them all in!

Found a chapel converted into a cafe and museum. Had lots about the history of Port Isaac. It is one of the safest harbour on the north Cornwall Coast. The first written evidence of the village is 1338.

From Port Isaac onto Lands End, Penzance, Mousehole Bay and Mount Saint Michael - all in Cornwall, beautiful part of the world.

Lands End

View from Lands End

Entrance to Lands End - so commercialised!

Sign into Lands End - obviously!

Me in front of apparently famous sign - so famous you have to line up and pay £11 to get a photo! Much cheaper to stand off to one side and do it yourself!

Cliff at Lands End

Lands End has been privately owned since 1066! Lands End is either the start or finish point for the end to end journey, with John O’Groats in Scotland being the other. Now been to both!
Mount Saint Michael- an ancient tidal island. It is dedicated to St Michael whom in Cornish legend, appeared to a group of Cornish fisherman in 495 AD. The St Aubyn Family retain the right to live in the castle as they have done since the middle of the 17th Century.

From here we went to Launceston! Not the Tassie one! Another gorgeous little place with castle ruins in the centre of town!

Launceston castle was at the centre of Cornwall’s Government for 7 centuries. Count BRIEN of Brittany, a supporter of King William 1 (William the Conquerer) established a castle here in 1068.

Launceston Castles ‘s longest lasting function was as Cornwall’s county jail, a role it performed from the 12th to the 19th centuries.

We were heading back to our accommodation when we decided to call into Clovelly. What a place! We didn’t get there til just after 6pm so had a wander around and then decided to come back tomorrow
