Day 36 Thursday May 15
Well who could believe that we have been here 5 weeks today! Up at 5am and off to Heathrow to drop the car off! Very relieved to return it in one piece! Caught the Hertz bus to the Central Bus Station at Heathrow to catch the bus to Sheffield. Bus leaving at 1005am and we were there by 730am! Plenty of time.
Didn’t realise that we were waiting for the Birmingham bus, not the Sheffield one! So confusing. Had to ask at counter why the Sheffield bus wasn’t coming up on the screen. He looked at me like I was the idiot! It’s the Birmingham one he said - look at the bus number on your ticket! Duh!
Our accommodation here in SheffieldStarting off down the alley!
On the bus, stopped at Milton Keynes to change for bus to Bradford! Yes Bradford, not Sheffield! This time the idiot looked at the bus number! What a trip - this part was packed! 2 1/2 hours - now we know what sardines feel like! All part of the adventure!
Get to Sheffield, call a taxi - lovely fellow turns up. We’re in the cab on the way to our accommodation and he says, “you’ve got cash haven’t you? “ We go “no, we’re paying by card.” He goes “who doesn’t have cash on them” We said “well we don’t!” Off we go to find a teller machine and happily we could get cash out! He really was a lovely guy.
Get to the accomodation and well, let’s just say we can all make mistakes! Should have been concerned when sign says enter at the back! We didn’t have a machete to get through the weeds at the front door! Go down an alley way and find the back door!
Forgot to say that we met a guy on the bus, he was from Northampton. He was returning from India - his family has a farm over there about 20kms from the Pakistan border. He said he woke up to all these explosions, about 200 drone bombs going off near him. The poor guy was a mess. It had taken him over 30 hours to get home, his flights had been canceled and he’d been on a wild bus ride to try and get to an airport. It sounded like a Mission Impossible movie! He just obviously needed to debrief, He just couldn’t stop talking about it! Makes me glad we live where we do!
Noone thinks you’re an idiot, well hardly anyone, well maybe some people, well there could be lots I don’t know about??? Bet you’re happy you had a visit to Birmingham!! What a bonus! Happy days down a dark alley in Sheffield, looks very inviting!
